More on Bethany - Beaverton Oregon
Bethany is one of the larger neighborhoods in Beaverton Oregon sitting just outside of downtown Portland. It's nestled between Somerset West and Oak Hills, south of Forest Park. It's split into North Bethany and regular Bethany with the main downtown area being the intersection of NW. Bethany Blvd. and NW. Laidlaw Blvd. In the center, you'll find shops and restaurants and other amenities and services. This is primarily a residential community but it is quite extensive with the Portland community college Rock Creek sitting in the northwest quadrant of the community as well as several other parks, schools, churches, and businesses throughout.
Located in Washington County, Bethany is an unincorporated community situated north of US Route 26 near Beaverton about 4 miles northwest of Cedar Mill, and is in the Portland metro area. Bethany got its name due to a Crossroads trading center about 2 miles northeast of its current location. The area was first settled in the mid-1870s by Ulrich Gerber, who created the first post office and chose the name Bethany, a Hebrew word applied to a place near Jerusalem. The post office was discontinued in 1904 but the area continued to grow over the last century. Today is home to about 25,000 residents and is considered one of the best suburbs to live in the state.
Bethany Schools
Bethany is part of the Beaverton School District and there are several schools right in the community such as the Westview high school, the International School of Beaverton, the Bethany elementary school, the School of Science & Technology, and Sato elementary school. These schools receive excellent scores and ratings from a variety of sources. Niche.com rated Bethany elementary school the #11 best public school in Oregon. This elementary school receives top marks for academics, student to teacher ratio, diversity, reading and math proficiency, and graduation rates.
"I attended Bethany Elementary kindergarten through fourth grade, and it was a great place to learn and grow up. The teachers were kind, fun, and taught us to be comfortable with challenges and overcome them. Bethany creates students who are strong and confident writers, and even today I accredit my strong writing skills to the teachers there." - Niche.com
Bethany Services and Amenities
Bethany is one of Portland's fastest-growing communities. Bethany Village is the community center and has some beautiful restaurants such as Bethany's Table, Bethany Public House and Brewery, a nine-hole golf course called the Claremont Golf Club and several other shops and restaurants.
There are also several parks in Bethany, the largest being Springville Meadows Park, which stretches into several other parks including Emerald Estates Park, Pirate Park, Ben Graf Park, North Shore Estates Park, Bethany Lake Park, Allenbach Acres Park, and Kaiser Woods Natural Area. Plus, all of these parks are connected by miles of trails making it a wonderful place for outdoor enthusiasts, nature lovers, and athletes. Hop on the Rock Creek Trail at the Rock Creek Powerline Park and follow it all the way up about 3.5 miles. It follows along a tributary of the Tualatin River with headwaters in the Tualatin Mountains or West Hills to the north. Rock Creek intersects the trail just west of Bethany Lake Park. It runs east along Springville Creek and a powerline corridor from Rock Creek Blvd. toward the Washington Multnomah County line. It's ideal for walking, running, biking, and wildlife viewing.
