The Luxury Community of Skylands
The Skyland neighborhood of Lake Oswego is located between John's Landing and Glenmorrie south of Hallinan and north of Skyline Ridge. It's just a few minutes to Oswego Lake and Willamette River. Not too far from Lake Oswego's activity center and Old Town, Skylands offers views of Mount Hood and beautiful sunsets. This collection of about 400 homesites offers larger lots of up to 1 acre with expansive homes and some gated driveways. With a total of about 2700 residents, 92% owned their own homes and properties range from about $700,000 up to $2 million. There are a few homes along Crestline Drive that do top out at about $4 million but that's not the average. The average home price is about $1.3 million. You'll find larger homes nestled in among wooded trees and establish landscape, single and two-story designs with 2 to 4 car garages.
Skyland's History
The area now known as Skyland's was originally owned by Marylhurst University and Sisters of St. Mary's. They originally farm the land and the property at the top of Crestline as well as nine lots on the south side of Green Bluff Drive. This area is currently known as Skyland Heights. You can even still see a wagon road cut through the barely visible part of Green Bluff veering north and switching back up the hill off green Bluff just north of the culvert crossing the area.
In the 1950s, Ferry and Cora Smith purchased the land as well as Skyland Heights, Skyland Point View Estates, and parts along the east end of Skyland's Drive. A large greenhouse located behind their house supplied much of the landscaping materials originally planted by early homeowners.
Residents at the time rode horses around many of the winding trails that traverse to the hills from Highway 43 up to Skylands and over to Stafford and Rosemont Roads. The owners log the property to raise money for the development and improve the overlying views. Over the next 50 years, Skylands built up with a variety of amenities and homesites selling off different lots here and there. While the Smiths sometimes economized on infrastructure, many of the early homes were designed by prominent architects in the area at the time including Roscoe Hemenway, Richard Sundeleaf, Burton Goodrich, and Sol Zack. Many of the homes were constructed of high-end materials and excellent craftsmanship and a tradition of care for design and aesthetic beauty continues to present itself in the Skyland homes today. Most homes offer gorgeous mountain views and serene-like scenery making Skyland's a wonderful place to live.
Skylands HOA
Skyland has its own homeowner association with a variety of activities and annual events, however, there are no homeowner association dues connected to the properties within the community. The community offers a private Facebook group as well as an association website perfect for new neighbors, private access, and information about the association.
Skylands Schools
Residents of Skylands are part of the Lake Oswego public school system and are served by the Hallinan elementary school, the Lakeridge middle school, and the Lakeridge high school. The schools receive excellent marks, ratings, and reviews from education to academics and extracurricular activities. The elementary school is less than 1/2 a mile from most homes in Skyland and the middle school and high school is between 1 1/2 and 3 miles away.
"Very great schools. My two kids get a lot of supports from their teachers, counselors, and other staff. Teachers are well qualified, patient, and supportive. My elder kid was graduated from here in 2012, he entered into the top 5 electronic engineering department in the USA. The staffs, counselors, and teachers really care about students.
