Why Choose a Home in Alameda?
Alameda is an affluent neighborhood in Portland Oregon nestled in the heart of downtown on the east side of the river. Nestled on the Alameda Bridge with beautiful views of downtown, the Cascade Mountains, and the Willamette River, Alameda is considered a luxury neighborhood in downtown with older homes, brand-new homes, and luxury estates. It's adjacent to Wilshire Park, a nearly 15-acre neighborhood park with community sidestreets, beautiful cottages, and expansive Craftsman homes. It resides between the business districts of Beaumont Village and the Hollywood district.
Locals tend to refer to this area as the "Yarn District" for its abundance of yarn-based hobbyists. At one point, you could see knitted scarves and hats draped throughout the neighborhood and the community offers many sewing clubs for these unique enthusiasts.
This neighborhood was established back in 1859 and was originally known as gravelly Hill Road but in 1909, the Alameda Land Company laid out the Park subdivision and was annexed to the city of Portland. It has its own Alameda neighborhood Portland community website, neighborhood Association, and emergency preparedness built and managed by locals and residents.
This gorgeous community offers tree-lined streets and unique architectural styles of homes from an English Tudor and cottage to a Craftsman and bungalow. You'll find classic designs as well as modern architecture and panoramic views of the downtown Portland skyline. Residents enjoy easy access to Wilshire Park, and the Alberta Arts District is located next door featuring a commercial hub with restaurants, trendy shops, galleries, boutiques, and cafés. It is the second most expensive neighborhood in Northeast Portland second only to Irvington.
You'll find properties that offer swimming pools, fenced yards, immaculate landscaping, as well as unique interior features such as wine cellars, formal dining and living rooms, master suites, guest houses, and outdoor living features.
Alameda is part of the Portland school district and most school-age children are assigned to the Alameda elementary school, the Beaumont middle school, and the Grant high school. The Alameda elementary school is located on NE. Fremont St. in the heart of the neighborhood, the middle school is just down the street on Northeast Fremont and Grant high school is just a few blocks south on the corner of NE. 36th Ave. and Northeast US Grant place. It's home to Grant Park, the grant outdoor pool, and the Beverly Cleary Hollywood campus.
