Arlington Heights is an upscale neighborhood in Northwest Portland and actually located in the middle of Washington Park, it is considered an urban suburban feel. At 1,000 feet above downtown Portland the views of the city below are amazing. Arlington Heights is an older neighborhood with homes going back before 1939. There are various styles of homes in Arlington Heights like the English style, Victorian cottage, the Craftsman or the modern style home. The steep hills and winding roads take you through Forest Park, Washington Park and downtown Portland. Homes in Arlington Heights offer some amazing scenery of hills and valleys, views of Mt St Helen or Mt Hood and of course the view of the city below.
There are so many opportunities in Arlington Heights to enjoy nature with miles of trails, Oregon Zoo, Japanese Garden, Hoyt Arboretum, Children's Museum, the Holocaust Memorial and much more and all within Forest Park. Pittock Mansion is nearby and offers trails that lead to Forest Park and even tours of the mansion that was once a private home. There are plenty of bars, restaurants, coffee shops and parks in Arlington Heights; however downtown Portland is also within walking distance to provide even more options.
If driving, biking or walking aren't preferable or even possible ways of getting around there is transportation available through different rideshare, carshare, bikeshare, taxis and other car services. Tri-met also offers light rail service to get you to your destination or there is also local bus service. This neighborhood is considered walkable due to the convenience of its location to downtown Portland and the easy accessibility to walking or biking to where you want to go. Walking or biking to downtown Portland is convenient; however coming back up to Arlington Heights, the hills are pretty steep, so taking a bus back up is usually a preferred option.
Schools in Arlington Heights
Portland Public School District serves the Arlington Heights neighborhood with excellent public schooling, offering some of the best schools in the city. According to Greatschools.org, Ainsworth Elementary School and West Sylvan Middle School were both given a well deserved 9/10 rating and Lincoln High School was given an 8/10 rating. Arlington Heights also has charter schools that offer excellent options as well, such as Emerson School and Le Monde French Immersion Public Charter School.
